Wire in The Blood – Gender Representation.

In “Wire in The Blood” gender is represented in different ways. It involved many stereotypes but also some counter types. The main characters are a male and a female. The female comes across as a countertype. She is portrayed as more of a leader and a lot stronger mentally the stereotypical female. She is shown to be wearing all black in the opening shot; we know that she is a police officer so this tells us that she deals with quite important issues such as death and serious crimes. The sort of job that she does is stereotypically a man’s job so it’s as if she is breaking the mold and living in a man’s world as a woman.

The male police officer, Tony, is in some ways a stereotype and a countertype. He has the stereotypical job of a man which is being a police officer. In one clip he is putting all the pieces of the crime together and comes to a conclusion. This can be a stereotype as he is the more intelligent one rather than the female police officer. A countertype is that he babysits the young boy which isn’t often associated with men as this is a more feminine thing to do.

  1. I've got to be honest that this is pretty disappointing given your other efforts. There is very little discussed here by way of textual analysis, with some aspects completely missed. This is despite the fact we covered this in detail in lesson and you were asked to update your work.
